The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana announced on Apr. 22 that it will partner with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and other federal courts to hold a free virtual presentation in compliance with the Pro Bono Work to Empower and Represent Act of 2018 (POWER Act). The event is scheduled for May 20 at 4:00 PM Eastern Time and 3:00 PM Central Time.

The purpose of this event is to meet local engagement requirements under the POWER Act, which aims to empower and represent victims of domestic and sexual violence through pro bono legal work.

Louisiana-licensed attorneys may be eligible to receive continuing legal education credit, as the court has applied for CLE approval from the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Committee of the Louisiana State Bar Association.

Additional information about the POWER Act, resources available to support victims, and registration details can be found on the court’s dedicated POWER Act page.

The announcement encourages participation from attorneys and interested parties.
