Federal charges have been filed against three men from Baton Rouge following an undercover firearm-trafficking operation that escalated into violence. Acting United States Attorney Ellison C. Travis announced the issuance of federal criminal complaints and arrest warrants for Torion Bobbs, 20, Cordell Simms, 19, and Caylup Anderson, 18. Bobbs and Simms face charges of assault on a federal officer and robbery, while Anderson is charged with robbery and aiding and abetting.
The complaints detail events from June 17, 2025, when agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Task Force attempted to conduct two separate firearm purchases outside the Triple S Food Mart on North Foster Drive. The firearms in question were equipped with machine-gun conversion devices known as “Glock switches.” An exchange of gunfire occurred during the operation, resulting in injuries to an ATF agent and Simms. All suspects initially fled but were subsequently apprehended.
Acting U.S. Attorney Travis emphasized the seriousness of assaults on law enforcement officers: “Our office has zero tolerance for assaults on law enforcement officers,” he stated. He commended the rapid response by multiple agencies that led to swift federal charges against the defendants.
Joshua Jackson, ATF New Orleans Special Agent in Charge (SAC), highlighted ATF’s commitment to public safety: “ATF’s primary focus is to support public safety and address violent crime with our federal, state, and local partners.” He added that these charges exemplify collaboration among law enforcement agencies to hold accountable those who engage in violent crime using firearms.
Special Agent in Charge Jonathan Tapp of the FBI New Orleans Field Office reiterated a strong stance against violence towards law enforcement: “The rapid response of the FBI and our law enforcement partners…proves that we will not tolerate any assault on law enforcement officers nor will we tolerate violent criminals who put the community in danger.”
The case is under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eli Abad. It should be noted that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation; all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
