A woman from St. Charles Parish has been charged with wire fraud following an investigation by federal authorities. According to a statement released by Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson, Ashley Hymel, 42, of Ama, Louisiana, was formally charged on September 18, 2025.

The bill of information alleges that Hymel embezzled at least $130,663.92 from her employer, referred to as Company 1, while working as an executive assistant. Prosecutors state that she used a company credit card to carry out the alleged scheme.

If convicted, Hymel faces up to twenty years in prison, up to five years of supervised release after incarceration, a fine of as much as $250,000, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

“Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson reiterated that a bill of information is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Simpson commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation for its work on the case. Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas Moses is prosecuting the matter.
