Agents from the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation (LBI), operating under Attorney General Liz Murrill, have arrested a Slidell resident on charges of defrauding the Medicaid program of nearly $15,000.
According to information provided by the LBI, the investigation began after a criminal referral from the Louisiana Department of Health. The referral concerned Akayla Bailey, who resides on Hummel Crest Road in Slidell and is a Medicaid recipient. Authorities allege that Bailey underreported her income to qualify for Medicaid benefits.
The investigation revealed that between June 2024 and November 2025, Bailey reported having no income. However, agents determined she was employed during this period and earned an annual salary of about $98,000. As a result, officials say she received nearly $15,000 in Medicaid funds fraudulently.
On December 2, LBI agents arrested Bailey based on an arrest warrant issued by the 19th Judicial District Court. She faces charges under L.R.S. 14:70.9 Government Benefits Fraud and was booked at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison without incident. Bond information has not been released.
The case remains under investigation.
“All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.”
