Registered sex offender from Marrero arrested for child sexual abuse material charges

A registered sex offender from Marrero was arrested by Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Louisiana Bureau of Investigation agents on Apr. 23 for alleged possession of child sexual abuse material involving children under the age of 13.

The arrest is significant as it highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address crimes against children and enforce laws regarding child exploitation. The investigation began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported that a Google user had uploaded multiple images containing suspected child sexual abuse material.

According to authorities, investigators identified Brandon Amonds, a 42-year-old resident of Garden Road in Marrero, as the owner of the account involved. It was also determined that Amonds is currently a registered sex offender. Agents located and arrested him at his residence. He faces three counts under L.A.R.S. 14:81.1E(5)(a) related to child sexual abuse material involving victims under thirteen years old.

This arrest resulted from collaborative work through the Orleans Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, with assistance from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Charles Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, and Kenner Police Department. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and reminded that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
