Wendy Webb, a registered nurse, has filed a lawsuit against her former employer, Oceans Behavioral Hospital of Kentwood, LLC, alleging racial discrimination and retaliation. The complaint was filed on November 18, 2025, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Webb accuses the hospital of creating a hostile work environment and violating her civil rights under both federal and state laws.

According to the complaint, Wendy Webb was one of only two African-American full-time nurses at Oceans Behavioral Hospital in Hammond, Louisiana. She claims that since 2020, she faced continuous racial discrimination and harassment that created a hostile work environment. Despite reporting these issues to management, no action was taken to address her concerns. Webb’s allegations are supported by claims that she was subjected to unwelcome harassment based on race and age and that these actions affected her employment conditions.

Webb details several incidents where she believes racial discrimination occurred. On August 14, 2024, while working a night shift, she became ill but continued her duties until she could no longer safely perform them. She provided a written report to her supervisor before leaving early due to illness—a practice allegedly accepted for other staff members—but was later terminated for “shift abandonment” and “failure to provide a verbal handoff.” Webb argues that younger white nurses were not disciplined for similar conduct.

The lawsuit seeks various forms of relief from the court. Wendy Webb is asking for back pay, front pay, compensatory damages for emotional distress and professional damage, punitive damages due to intentional discrimination and retaliation by the defendant, as well as attorney’s fees and litigation costs. Additionally, she requests an injunction prohibiting future unlawful practices by Oceans Behavioral Hospital based on race or retaliation.

Representing Wendy Webb are attorneys Shermin S. Khan and T. Alexander Hartford from The Khan Law Firm in Hammond, Louisiana. The case is presided over by an unnamed judge with the Case ID: 2:25-cv-02337.
