Plaintiff Alleges Breach of Contract Against Oilfield Service Company Over Lease Obligations

Brantco Enterprises, LLC has taken legal action against Swampfox Oilfield Services, LLC over a dispute involving an oil, gas, and mineral lease. The complaint was filed on October 28, 2025, in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana. Brantco alleges that Swampfox failed to fulfill its obligations under the lease agreement, leading to significant property damage and financial losses.

The case centers around an oil, gas, and mineral lease initially granted by Brantco to Oilfield Trash, LLC in May 2013. Over time, Swampfox acquired full working interest in the lease through assignments from Oilfield Trash and Intrepid Drilling, LLC. However, Brantco claims that production ceased by June 2022 at the latest, thereby terminating the lease according to its terms. Despite this termination, Swampfox allegedly did not remove its equipment or restore the leased premises as required by both the lease agreement and Louisiana law.

In communications between Brantco’s managing member Brian H. Brantley and Swampfox’s representative Wes Wagner throughout 2022 and into 2025, assurances were made by Swampfox regarding restoration efforts. Yet no significant progress was reported. By January 2025, Brantco formally notified Swampfox of the lease termination and their obligations but extended additional time for compliance out of good faith.

Despite further notices and demands from Brantco throughout mid-2025—especially after granting a new lease to Shield Energy Resources—Swampfox continued to delay actions citing regulatory compliance issues. This prompted inspections by Louisiana’s Department of Energy and Natural Resources (DENR), which highlighted site disrepair due to excessive vegetation and abandoned equipment.

Brantco seeks a declaratory judgment confirming the lease’s termination as of June 2022 at the latest. They demand compensation for costs related to removing Swampfox’s property from their land along with damages for breach of contract and loss of use. Furthermore, they request that Swampfox be prohibited from interfering with any removal or restoration activities conducted by Brantco.

The case is being handled by attorneys Michael Rood and Rachel S. Day from Bradley Murchison Kelly & Shea LLC representing Brantco Enterprises. The presiding judge is yet unnamed under Case ID: 3:25-cv-00989-SDD-RLB.
