A federal grand jury has indicted Jentonia Williams, 39, of New Orleans, for bank robbery following an incident at a Capital One Bank branch on Canal Street earlier this month. The indictment was announced by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson.

According to court documents, Williams is accused of robbing the Capital One Bank located in the 4100 block of Canal Street on September 2, 2025. The deposits at this bank are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).

If convicted, Williams faces up to 20 years in prison, a fine that could reach $250,000, up to three years of supervised release after imprisonment, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson emphasized that the charges against Williams are allegations and that guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. “An indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt,” Simpson stated.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Violent Crime Task Force led the investigation into this case. Assistant United States Attorney Duane A. Evans from the General Crimes Unit is prosecuting.

This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America, which aims to address illegal immigration and violent crime by combining resources from several Department of Justice initiatives such as OCDETFs and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
