New Orleans man sentenced for multiple federal gun offenses

A New Orleans man has been sentenced for federal gun crimes following a guilty plea to a three-count indictment. Cardell Glover, 24, was sentenced on June 17, 2025, by United States District Judge Darrel J. Papillion. Glover faced charges including being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a machine gun.

Judge Papillion handed down concurrent sentences of 96 months imprisonment for each count. Additionally, Glover will serve three years of supervised release concurrently for each count and pay a $300 mandatory special assessment fee.

The case stemmed from an incident on July 9, 2024, when a rideshare driver reported her weapon stolen to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office (JPSO). The driver had placed her Glock Model 19 Gen 5 pistol in the trunk before starting work. After picking up two passengers at Dollar General and dropping them off at an apartment complex in Jefferson Parish, she discovered the firearm missing. The passenger who ordered the ride was known as “Dell.”

Glover admitted to stealing the Glock pistol and acknowledged it was equipped with a machinegun conversion device at recovery time.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by uniting law enforcement and communities. On May 26, 2021, PSN’s strategy was enhanced to include fostering community trust, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department for their efforts in this case. Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Dawkins from the Violent Crime Unit prosecuted it.
