New Orleans man pleads guilty to firearm possession as felon

New Orleans, Louisiana – Haven Patterson, 42, a resident of New Orleans, has pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. The plea was entered on July 8, 2025, for violating Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1).

Court records indicate that on February 27, 2025, Patterson possessed a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun and a loaded .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun. Due to a prior conviction in Louisiana State, Patterson is prohibited from possessing firearms.

The crime carries penalties including up to 15 years in prison, fines up to $250,000, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100. Sentencing is set for October 7, 2025.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Chandra Menon from the Public Integrity Unit is prosecuting it.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America. The initiative involves resources from the Department of Justice aimed at countering illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations. It also seeks to protect communities from violent crime through efforts like the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
