A New Orleans man has pleaded guilty to attempting to send obscene material to someone he believed was a 15-year-old girl. Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Mark Brooks, also known as “Baby Nu,” entered his plea on November 20, 2025, before United States District Judge Barry W. Ashe.

Court documents show that on May 1, 2025, Brooks began communicating with an FBI online covert employee who posed as a teenage girl named “Ava.” After learning “Ava” was only fifteen years old, Brooks engaged in sexually explicit conversations and sent several videos of himself performing sexual acts from various locations, including his workplace and a residence. During these exchanges, Brooks discussed meeting the minor for sexual activity.

On May 13, 2025, Brooks arranged to meet “Ava” at a restaurant near his home with plans to return to his residence afterward for sexual contact. Law enforcement arrested him as he walked toward the meeting location.

Brooks faces up to ten years in prison, three years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000 and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee. He may also be required to register as a sex offender. Sentencing is scheduled for February 12, 2026.

“This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims,” according to the press release. Additional information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at www.projectsafechildhood.gov.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Louisiana State Police for their roles in investigating this case. Assistant United States Attorney Jordan Ginsberg is leading the prosecution.
