A New Orleans man has pleaded guilty to attempting to transfer obscene material to a minor, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson. Mark Brooks, also known as “Baby Nu,” entered his plea before United States District Judge Barry W. Ashe.

Court documents show that on May 1, 2025, Brooks contacted an undercover FBI agent posing as a fifteen-year-old girl named “Ava.” After being told of her age, Brooks continued communicating with “Ava” in a sexually explicit manner and sent her several explicit videos, including footage of himself masturbating at work and inside a residence. Brooks also discussed meeting the individual for sexual acts and arranged to meet at a restaurant near his home on May 13, 2025. He was arrested by law enforcement while walking from his residence to the restaurant.

Brooks faces up to ten years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100. He may also be required to register as a sex offender. Sentencing is scheduled for February 12, 2026.

“This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Louisiana State Police for their work on this case. Assistant United States Attorney Jordan Ginsberg is leading the prosecution.
