JEREMIAH MILLS, 28, of New Orleans, was indicted on August 28, 2025, on federal charges related to two incidents at a gas station in the city. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson.

MILLS faces four counts: Hobbs Act Robbery, Discharging a Firearm During and in Relation to a Crime of Violence, Attempted Hobbs Act Robbery, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The charges are based on events that occurred at a gas station in the 2700 block of S. Claiborne Avenue. According to the indictment, on July 17, 2025, MILLS committed an armed robbery at this location and allegedly used and discharged a firearm during the crime. Three days later, he is accused of attempting another robbery at the same site.

If convicted on all counts, MILLS could face significant penalties: up to 20 years imprisonment for each Hobbs Act Robbery count (Counts 1 and 3), a mandatory minimum of 10 years up to life imprisonment for discharging a firearm during a violent crime (Count 2), and up to 15 years for being a felon in possession of a firearm (Count 4). Each count also carries potential fines up to $250,000 and varying terms of supervised release. There is also a $100 mandatory special assessment fee per count.

Acting United States Attorney Simpson stated: “the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.”

The case falls under Operation Take Back America, which aims to use Department of Justice resources against illegal immigration, drug cartels, transnational criminal organizations, and violent crime. The initiative coordinates efforts from Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN).

The Federal Bureau of Investigation Violent Crime Task Force investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Troy L. Bell from the Violent Crimes Unit is prosecuting.
