Agents from the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, under Attorney General Liz Murrill, have arrested a couple from New Orleans for allegedly defrauding the state’s Medicaid program of more than $61,000.

The arrests follow a referral from the Louisiana Department of Health. The department alleged that Gregory and Antoinette Hammond, residents of Wright Road in New Orleans and both Medicaid recipients, intentionally underreported their income to obtain Medicaid benefits.

Investigators determined that between June 2021 and May 2025, Gregory and Antoinette Hammond provided false information by not accurately reporting their marital status and household income. Authorities say this resulted in fraudulent receipt of over $61,000 in Medicaid funds.

On November 12, agents arrested both individuals based on warrants issued by the 19th Judicial District Court. The charges include government benefits fraud under L.R.S. 14:70.9 and filing false public records under L.R.S. 14:133.

The Hammonds were booked at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison without incident. Information about their bond has not been released.

The investigation remains ongoing.

“All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.”
