Monroe woman pleads guilty to Medicaid fraud, ordered to pay over $106,000 in restitution

Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit secured a guilty plea on March 24 from Sharri Jones of Monroe for Medicaid fraud. Jones, age 48 and a resident of South Wilmuth Drive, admitted in the 19th Judicial District Court to one count of Medicaid fraud.

The case is significant because it addresses the misuse of public funds intended for healthcare services. According to court records, Jones submitted fraudulent documentation while working as a counselor at Universal Rehabilitation Center in Monroe. She claimed she was providing telehealth services to multiple Medicaid recipients but investigations showed these services were never provided.

Agents interviewed witnesses and reviewed phone records that confirmed Jones documented non-existent services, resulting in a loss of $106,572.74 to the Medicaid program. She was originally arrested on January 7, 2025. As part of her sentence—deferred under Article 893—Jones received one year of active supervised probation with standard conditions and special requirements: completion of a court effective decision-making school, restitution payment totaling $106,572.74 (CMJ executed), monthly supervision fees of $60 to probation and parole, and remaining drug free, arrest free, and alcohol free.

This investigation was conducted by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit within the Louisiana Department of Justice.
