A Mississippi resident, William Gilchrist, has been sentenced for impersonating a deputy United States Marshal. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson. On June 24, 2025, United States District Judge Susie Morgan sentenced Gilchrist to three years of probation and imposed a $4,000 fine for the offense.
The case stems from an incident on or about June 19, 2024, when Gilchrist falsely claimed to be a Fugitive Task Force Officer with the United States Marshals Service. This act violated Title 18 of the United States Code, Section 912.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the efforts of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations in handling this investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell from the General Crimes Unit led the prosecution.
