Marco Gomez-Arguello, a 36-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced on August 7, 2025, in New Orleans for illegal reentry after being previously removed from the United States. The sentencing took place before United States District Judge Barry W. Ashe following Gomez-Arguello’s guilty plea to violating Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a) and Section 1326(b)(1).

Gomez-Arguello received a sentence of time served. In addition to this, Judge Ashe ordered one year of supervised release and imposed a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

Court documents state that Gomez-Arguello had been deported from the United States on October 28, 2013, before reentering the country without authorization.

Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson said, “I praise the work of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) New Orleans Field Office in investigating this matter.” Assistant United States Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman from the General Crimes Unit led the prosecution.

The case falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at addressing illegal immigration and targeting cartels and transnational criminal organizations through coordinated efforts involving various Department of Justice programs such as the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
