Mexican national sentenced for illegal re-entry into the US

Acting United States Attorney Michael Simpson has announced the sentencing of Joel Becerra-Cesario, a 38-year-old Mexican national. U.S. District Judge Darrel J. Papillion sentenced Becerra-Cesario on May 27, 2025, to 27 months in prison for re-entering the United States after deportation. This action is a violation of Title 8, United States Code, Sections 1326(a) and 1326(b)(2).

Following his prison term, Becerra-Cesario will be deported back to Mexico.

Court documents reveal that Becerra-Cesario was previously convicted of cocaine distribution and was apprehended in Kenner around October 20, 2023. He had been deported to Mexico on May 15, 2014.

U.S. Attorney Simpson acknowledged the efforts of U.S. Customs and Border Protection in this case. Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis from the General Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution.
