A Mexican citizen has pleaded guilty to illegal reentry into the United States after being previously removed, according to a statement from Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson of the Eastern District of Louisiana.
Alfredo Ramirez-Vazquez, 55, entered his plea on September 16, 2025. Court records show that Ramirez-Vazquez returned to the U.S. before April 1, 2025, following his removal on or about February 5, 2024. Sentencing is set for November 13, 2025 by Chief U.S. District Judge Wendy B. Vitter.
Ramirez-Vazquez could face up to ten years in prison, a fine as high as $250,000, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson stated: “I commend the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in investigating this matter.” The prosecution is led by Assistant United States Attorney Irene González of the General Crimes Unit.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America. According to the statement: “Operation Take Back America is a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN).”
