Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Marco Gomez-Arguello, a 36-year-old Mexican national, pled guilty to illegal re-entry of a removed alien on July 3, 2025. This plea is in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a) and Section 1326(b)(1).

The indictment states that Gomez-Arguello had previously been deported from the United States on October 28, 2013. Upon sentencing, he could face up to two years in prison, a fine reaching $250,000, up to one year of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.

Simpson commended the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) New Orleans Field Office for their investigation efforts. Assistant United States Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman from the General Crimes Unit is leading the prosecution.

This case falls under Operation Take Back America. The initiative utilizes resources from the Department of Justice to address illegal immigration and combat cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs). It aims to protect communities from violent crime through streamlined efforts involving the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
