Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill announced a $45 million settlement with CVS Health and its pharmacy benefit manager subsidiary, resolving three lawsuits brought by the state. The cases involved allegations related to consumer communications about pending legislation, regulatory issues in pharmacy benefit manager practices by CVS, and claims of harm to Louisiana’s independent pharmacies due to unfair competition.
The settlement funds will be directed toward implementing pharmacy benefit legislation and supporting Medicaid fraud initiatives. These efforts will be carried out in partnership with the Inspector General and the Louisiana Department of Health.
“These cases involved conduct directly impacting Louisiana citizens. Rather than prolonging litigation, which could have extended several years, we worked with CVS to reach a resolution that serves the best interests of Louisiana. The funds will be used to further ensure accountability in pharmaceutical pricing and PBM industry practices,” said Attorney General Murrill.
Attorney General Murrill also stated that CVS was cooperative during the process and is committed to being a constructive partner in Louisiana’s health care system.
The agreement concludes the legal matters without any admission of liability or wrongdoing by CVS or its subsidiary.
