Kenner resident Shawna Martin, 56, was sentenced on December 8, 2025, after pleading guilty to charges related to fentanyl distribution. Martin received a sentence of 46 months in prison, followed by four years of supervised release and a $300 mandatory special assessment fee.

According to information presented in court, the Drug Enforcement Administration began investigating Martin’s activities in late 2023 after receiving reports about her involvement in drug distribution. The investigation found that Martin distributed more than 40 grams of fentanyl pills within the Eastern District of Louisiana. On two occasions—August 24 and September 6, 2023—Martin sold quantities of fentanyl totaling nearly 98 grams to an individual she believed was a legitimate buyer. Later, on September 20, she was found in possession of approximately 115 grams of fentanyl with the intent to distribute.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lynn E. Schiffman from the Narcotics Unit.
