Kenner man receives probation for theft of Social Security funds

A Kenner resident has been sentenced for theft of government funds, according to an announcement from Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson. Johnren Gaines, 28, was sentenced on November 20, 2025, after being found guilty of violating Title 18, United States Code, Section 641.

Court documents state that between May 2019 and April 2022, Gaines accessed and converted approximately $49,232.40 in funds from the Social Security Administration.

United States District Judge Barry W. Ashe imposed a sentence of two years’ probation for Gaines. Six months of this probation will be served under home incarceration. In addition to probation, Gaines is required to pay restitution in the amount of $49,232.40 and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson recognized the support provided by the Social Security Administration’s Office of the Inspector General in this case. The prosecution was managed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba, Chief of the Financial Crimes Unit, along with Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Anne Flippo.
