Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Tevin Bornes, a 31-year-old resident of Kenner, Louisiana, pleaded guilty to violating the Federal Controlled Substances and Gun Control Acts. The plea was entered on July 2, 2025, before United States District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo.
Court documents reveal that law enforcement searched Bornes’ apartment on July 31, 2023, following a complaint. They seized various controlled substances and firearms during the search. The substances included marijuana, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine base, methamphetamine, and cocaine hydrochloride. The firearms confiscated were a Glock Model 22 with a machinegun conversion device, a Pioneer Arms Model Sporter rifle, a Glock Model 23 pistol, and a Del-Ton DTI-15 pistol.
Bornes pleaded guilty to four counts in the indictment. Count 1 charged him with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine products. For this charge, he faces five to forty years imprisonment and up to $5 million in fines.
Count 2 involved possessing firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes. This count carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years imprisonment up to life imprisonment.
Count 3 charged Bornes with possession of a machinegun which could result in up to ten years imprisonment.
Count 4 accused him of being a felon in possession of a firearm which carries up to fifteen years imprisonment.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together law enforcement agencies and communities. It was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Kenner Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Rachal Cassagne oversees the prosecution.
