Honduran national sentenced for illegal re-entry after prior deportation

A Honduran national, Carlos Masariego Rosales, was sentenced in New Orleans after pleading guilty to illegally re-entering the United States following a previous deportation. According to information released by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson, Rosales, 48, was found in Jefferson Parish on or around March 30, 2025. He had previously been deported to Honduras on November 20, 2006.

Chief United States District Judge Wendy B. Vitter sentenced Rosales to time served and one year of supervised release. In addition, he must pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, which aims to address illegal immigration and related criminal activity by coordinating resources from various Department of Justice initiatives such as the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

“Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson praised the work of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell of the General Crimes Unit oversees the prosecution.”
