Honduran national receives prison sentence for illegal reentry in Louisiana

Wilmer Antonio Garcia-Aquino, a 43-year-old citizen of Honduras, has been sentenced for illegal reentry into the United States. The sentencing took place on August 21, 2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

U.S. District Judge Lance M. Africk handed down a sentence of three months imprisonment to Garcia-Aquino. Following his release from prison, he will be subject to three years of supervised release and must pay a mandatory $100 special assessment fee. Upon completion of his prison term, Garcia-Aquino will be transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings as required by the Immigration and Nationality Act.

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson commented on the case: “Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson praised the work of the United States Bureau of Customs and Border Protection investigating this matter.” Assistant United States Attorney Irene González from the General Crimes Unit led the prosecution.
