Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Marlon Santos, a 36-year-old native of Honduras, has pleaded guilty to the charge of re-entry of a removed alien. This plea was entered on July 9, 2025, in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).

Court documents reveal that Santos was located in Orleans Parish on April 21, 2025. He had been previously deported to Honduras on December 21, 2018.

Santos could face up to two years in prison, a fine reaching $250,000, up to one year of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100. The sentencing is scheduled for October 22, 2025, under United States District Judge Lance M. Africk.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America. This nationwide initiative utilizes the full resources of the Department of Justice to combat illegal immigration and eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs). It aims to protect communities from violent crime through coordinated efforts involving the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for its role in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis from the General Crimes Unit is leading the prosecution.
