Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson has announced that Jorge Luis Villanueva, 35, pled guilty to illegal re-entry of a removed alien on June 26, 2025. This plea is in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Sections 1326(a) and 1326(b)(1).

Villanueva had previously been deported from the United States on September 11, 2013. Upon sentencing, he faces up to two years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, up to one year of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.

Simpson acknowledged the efforts of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in their investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman from the General Crimes Unit is leading the prosecution.

This case falls under Operation Take Back America. The initiative aims to address illegal immigration and eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime. It involves collaboration with the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
