A Honduran national, Jhosmy Josue Perez-Alvarez, pleaded guilty to firearm possession as an illegal alien in the United States. The plea was entered on May 27, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey in New Orleans.

Court documents reveal that Perez-Alvarez, aged 24 and unlawfully present in the country, was found with a Glock nine-millimeter handgun on January 2, 2025. He admitted to being illegally present at the time of his arrest and acknowledged his prohibited status regarding firearm possession.

Perez-Alvarez could face up to 15 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment fee. His sentencing is set for August 26, 2025.

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson commended the investigative efforts of several agencies including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Enforcement and Removal Operations, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the Office of the Inspector General Social Security Administration, and the New Orleans Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis is managing the prosecution.

This case falls under Operation Take Back America—a Department of Justice initiative aimed at addressing illegal immigration and combating cartels and transnational criminal organizations while safeguarding communities from violent crime perpetrators.
