Acting United States Attorney Ellison C. Travis announced that Olvin Rodriguez-Inestroza, a 22-year-old Honduran national in the United States without authorization, has pleaded guilty to distributing child pornography before U.S. Chief Judge Shelly D. Dick.
Rodriguez-Inestroza admitted during his plea that he used internet-based accounts and a social media mobile application to distribute child pornography. He also possessed at least 205 videos and approximately 325 images of child pornography on his smartphone, including some involving toddlers.
The conviction carries a minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and up to a lifetime period of supervised release. It also includes sex offender registration requirements. Rodriguez-Inestroza is subject to removal or deportation from the United States after serving his sentence.
The investigation was conducted by the United States Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Baton Rouge Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Edward H. Warner, who serves as Deputy Criminal Chief, is prosecuting the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project coordinates federal, state, and local resources to locate and prosecute individuals exploiting children via the Internet and rescue victims.
Additionally, this case falls under Operation Take Back America, which aims to eliminate illegal immigration-related crime and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime perpetrators.
