Ubaldo Yasir Amaya-Colindres, a 27-year-old citizen of Honduras, was charged on March 16 by bill of information with illegal reentry of a removed alien, according to U.S. Attorney David I. Courcelle.

The charge alleges that Amaya-Colindres returned to the United States before March 1 after being previously removed on or about June 13, 2024. If convicted, he faces up to ten years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, up to three years of supervised release following imprisonment, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

Courcelle said: “An indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.”

This case is part of Operation Take Back America. The initiative aims to use resources from the Department of Justice to address illegal immigration and target cartels and transnational criminal organizations through collaboration between the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.

Courcelle praised the United States Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement for their work investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Irene González from the General Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution.
