Honduran man sentenced for illegal reentry into U.S.; DOJ highlights enforcement effort

A Honduran national, Wilian Serrano-Moreira, age 34, was sentenced on October 9, 2025, for illegally reentering the United States after being previously deported. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson.

Court records show that Serrano-Moreira was discovered in the U.S. on April 15, 2023. He had reentered without authorization from the Attorney General after his prior removal on July 17, 2019. U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown sentenced him to time served (six months), a mandatory special assessment fee of $100, and one year of supervised release. Serrano-Moreira was remanded into the custody of the United States Marshals.

The case falls under Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at addressing illegal immigration and targeting cartels and transnational criminal organizations through coordinated efforts with Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN).

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson stated: “Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson praised the work of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in investigating this matter.” Assistant United States Attorney Jon M. Maestri of the General Crimes Unit oversaw the prosecution.
