The plea was entered on August 26, 2025, and sentencing is scheduled for October 9, 2025, before United States District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown.

According to court documents, Serrano-Moreira was found in the United States on April 15, 2023. He had reentered without authorization following a prior deportation on July 17, 2019. This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America. “Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN),” according to the press release. The initiative aims to address illegal immigration and target transnational criminal organizations.

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson acknowledged the investigative work by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations as well as the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Jon M. Maestri is handling the case.
