Honduran man pleads guilty to illegal reentry in Louisiana federal court

A Honduran national, Wilian Serrano-Moreira, age 34, has pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal reentry after being previously removed from the United States. The plea was entered on August 26, 2025, and sentencing is scheduled for October 9, 2025, before United States District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown.

According to court documents, Serrano-Moreira was found in the United States on April 15, 2023. He had reentered without authorization following a prior deportation on July 17, 2019. The offense carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison, up to one year of supervised release, a fine that could reach $250,000, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America. “Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN),” according to the press release. The initiative aims to address illegal immigration and target transnational criminal organizations.

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson acknowledged the investigative work by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations as well as the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Jon M. Maestri is handling the case.
