A Honduran national has pleaded guilty in New Orleans to charges related to illegal reentry after deportation and firearm possession. Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Bryan Javier Perez-Espinoza, 33, entered the plea on August 13, 2025.
Perez-Espinoza was found in Orleans Parish on March 23, 2024, according to court documents. He had previously been removed from the United States and sent back to Honduras on September 30, 2022.
For the charge of reentry of a removed alien, Perez-Espinoza faces up to two years in prison, up to one year of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000, and a $100 special assessment fee. For being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm, he could receive up to fifteen years in prison, three years of supervised release, another fine of up to $250,000, and an additional $100 special assessment fee.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America. According to the press release: “This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).”
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson said: “Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson praised the work of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in investigating this matter.” The prosecution is overseen by Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis from the General Crimes Unit.
