A Gretna man has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Shayne Davis, 36, entered his plea on February 3, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Darrel J. Papillion. The announcement was made by United States Attorney David I. Courcelle.

Court documents state that in March 2025, federal and local task force officers attempted to arrest Davis, who was wanted for aggravated assault and felon in possession of a firearm charges. During the attempt, Davis fled from law enforcement and discarded a firearm in a neighbor’s yard while being pursued. Officers apprehended him shortly after and found he had a nine-millimeter magazine in his possession. The firearm thrown away by Davis was identified as a Glock Model 26 Gen5 nine-millimeter pistol, which was recovered at the scene. Later, officers executed a search warrant at Davis’s residence and found an FIE Titan .25 caliber handgun.

Davis is scheduled to be sentenced on May 12, 2026. He faces up to fifteen years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, three years of supervised release, and must pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

The case falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative led by the Department of Justice that aims to address illegal immigration issues and combat violent crime through coordinated efforts involving Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Gregory M. Kennedy from the Violent Crime Unit prosecuted it.
