A former employee has filed a lawsuit against her previous employer, alleging racial discrimination and retaliation in the workplace. Angelic Hines initiated the complaint on February 19, 2026, in the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against SafeSource Direct LLC. The lawsuit claims violations of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 42 U.S.C. § 1981.

Hines, a Black resident of Franklin, Louisiana, began working with SafeSource Direct LLC in February 2022. Her role as a Shipping and Receiving Coordinator was under the supervision of Patti Olds. Despite receiving limited formal training, Hines performed her duties proficiently and was praised by her supervisor for her work ethic. She was promised a promotion to Warehouse Supervisor but never received it. In August 2023, after disclosing a past consensual relationship with Troy Alexander, the Warehouse Manager who treated her differently post-breakup, Hines found herself still performing supervisory duties without appropriate recognition or pay.

The complaint details several instances where Hines faced discrimination based on race. For example, despite being encouraged to apply for an Expeditor position in April 2024 with assurances that no immediate hiring for Warehouse Supervisor would occur, SafeSource Direct LLC interviewed three Caucasian employees for that role shortly after she took the new position. Furthermore, when Jake Boyer was hired as Warehouse Supervisor in November 2024, Hines continued to perform supervisory tasks without acknowledgment or compensation.

Hines alleges that she experienced micromanagement and unequal treatment compared to her white colleagues like David Perez and Kevin Marceaux who enjoyed greater flexibility at work. After raising concerns about racial discrimination within the company on March 12, 2025—a protected activity under Title VII—she faced increased scrutiny and denial of promotions.

In response to these grievances, Hines seeks compensatory damages for lost wages and emotional distress caused by SafeSource Direct LLC’s conduct which she claims was intentional and motivated by race. She also requests punitive damages along with back pay, front pay, attorneys’ fees, costs related to legal proceedings as well as injunctive relief from further discriminatory practices.

Representing Angelic Hines is attorney Natalie Blackman from The Law Office of Attorney Natalie Blackman located in Baton Rouge. The case is identified under Civil Action No. 6:26-cv-515 with proceedings overseen by judges at the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.
