Agents with the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, under Attorney General Liz Murrill, have arrested Wilfred James Menard Jr., 28, of Egan, on multiple charges related to sex crimes against children. The arrest was made by the Lafayette Police Department on February 10, 2026.
Menard Jr. initially faced four counts of possession of child sexual abuse material in violation of Louisiana law. Following contact from Lafayette Police, the investigation became a joint effort involving the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, and Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
On February 12, agents rearrested Menard Jr. on 25 felony counts related to child sexual abuse material involving victims under age 13 in Lafayette Parish. Additionally, an arrest warrant was obtained in Acadia Parish for one count of sexual battery (felony), one count of indecent behavior with juveniles (felony), and five counts for production of child sexual abuse material under age 13 (felony).
Menard Jr. was booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center and rearrested by state investigators. The warrant from Acadia Parish remains active.
Attorney General Liz Murrill stated: “As you’ve seen throughout this week, we will continue to aggressively pursue and arrest those who harm the children of Louisiana.”
Bond amounts were set at $100,000 by the Lafayette Police Department, $100,000 by the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation for Lafayette Parish charges, and $325,000 for the Acadia Parish active warrant.
The investigation is ongoing regarding potential additional offenses involving children.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
