The U.S. Attorney Kurt Wall has announced support for the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) upcoming National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, scheduled for October 25, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event is designed to provide a safe and responsible way for people to dispose of unused prescription medications and aims to educate the public about the risks associated with medication misuse.

According to the announcement, “The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a bi-annual event that aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. This service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.”

During the event, DEA and its partners will accept tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs. Liquids such as intravenous solutions, syringes or other sharps, and illegal drugs will not be accepted. Vaping devices and cartridges can be turned in if lithium batteries are removed.

People who are unable to participate on October 25 can use one of more than 11,000 authorized collectors nationwide throughout the year for medication disposal. Additional information is available at www.dea.gov/takebackday.
