A Dallas resident, Trevis Williams, has pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition while attempting to board a plane at Louis Armstrong International Airport. The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson.

Court documents state that on March 16, 2025, a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent discovered what appeared to be a firearm and nine rounds of ammunition in Williams’ carry-on bag during security screening. The TSA agent alerted the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). An FBI Special Agent determined that Williams was prohibited from possessing the items due to a previous felony conviction in the 24th Judicial District Court, Parish of Jefferson, State of Louisiana.

The weapon was identified as a Glock Model 30, .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol with nine rounds of ammunition. Williams’ actions violated Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(8). He faces up to fifteen years in prison, a fine up to $250,000, up to three years of supervised release after imprisonment, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee. Sentencing is scheduled for December 16, 2025 before U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance.

This prosecution falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative designed to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and community organizations. In May 2021, the Department introduced new strategies for PSN focused on building trust within communities, supporting violence prevention groups, setting targeted enforcement priorities, and evaluating results.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson stated: “Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson praised the work of the Transportation Security Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in investigating this matter.” Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri is prosecuting the case.
